This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps. 118:24)
I honestly can’t tell if this is good news today or not. How do we rejoice when social distancing is taking its toll? How do we make sense of God making a day and rejoicing in that day when a pandemic is consuming our lives? What does it mean to rejoice on a day like this?
Any day we’re with God is worthy of celebration (Amy Lyles Wilson in Disciplines)
Is today worthy of celebration?
Yes…
Even today is worthy of celebration because we are with God in this day. God is with us in this day. And that is worth rejoicing. That is worthy of celebration.
It seems like many people have hit an emotional low point this week as staying at home if you can becomes more than an extended spring break. I’ve seen a lot of posts from friends who are parents and friends who are in ministry–and friends who are parents and in ministry–admitting to feeling empty, exhausted, and overwhelmed this week.
On a day like this–God is with you. You are with God. Even on this day, God welcomes our tears and fears and frustrations–and we rejoice in that.
Ever-present God, help us to sense your love and care with us today. Give us the faith and strength to rejoice in THIS day and celebrate the gift of your presence.
