a series of reflections based on this online stations of the cross
This station invites us to think about those who are far away and not directly connected to us who are carrying burdens and falling under the weight of those burdens.
First my awareness goes to friends who live and work in other countries:
Madagascar
Uganda
Kenya
Chad
Papua New Guinea
Colombia
As pilots, teachers, nurses, administrators, Bible translators or church leaders, these friends have given themselves to a life that is hard to really imagine.
And then my awareness shifts to countries and areas that are regularly in seasons of conflict and unrest:
Venezuela
Israel/Palestine
South Sudan
And then my awareness shifts to the general conflicts and areas of tension that continue to divide and destroy community:
racism
poverty
disease
injustice of many kinds
human trafficking
lack of education for girls and women
oppression of indigenous peoples
Jesus carries even this weight, which often is hard for me to remember to think/pray/care about. Jesus carries even this weight, which I can so easily avoid and evade. Jesus carries even this weight…and it causes him to fall a third time.
